Pilgrimage tour of Uzbekistan

8 days | Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara

Tour description

A trip to Sufi shrines in Uzbekistan includes visits to monuments and places of pilgrimage of world significance. We will visit the city of Gijduvan – the birthplace of the famous Sufi Abdulkhalik Gijduvani, whose religious and philosophical treatises became the basis of Sufi teaching. In Samarkand, the obligatory points of visit are the Rukhabad mausoleum over the burial of Sheikh Burhaneddin Sagaraja, as well as the mosque and grave of Khoja Ahrar, the famous Sufi thinker and spiritual mentor of medieval rulers. In Tashkent, the mausoleum of Kafal-al-Shashi, a great scientist and theologian, the cult and memorial complex of Zangiat, as well as the mausoleum of Sheikh Zainiddin-bobo, the author of spiritual works of the Sufi Suhrawardia order, is of particular interest.

The culmination of the pilgrimage tour will certainly be Bukhara – a holy city for Muslims all over the world. It was near Bukhara that Bahouddin Naqshbandi was born, lived and was buried - the founder of the most significant Sufi Naqshbandi order, whose spirit, as locals believe, protects this land. To pray at the grave of Bahouddin Naqshbandi and worship this saint is equivalent to a small hajj to Mecca.

Pilgrims from many countries come to Uzbekistan to find healing and wisdom by visiting the holy places of power and touching the shrines. As the Sufis say: "Seek wisdom while you have strength, otherwise you may lose strength without gaining wisdom."
